EAGLEMAN HALF IRONMAN TRIATHLON

Hi… will be heading to cambridge this weekend to compete in the Eagleman Half Ironman Triathlon (1.2 swim, 56 bike, 13.1 run)…

This will be Joe’s first Triathlon and it’s a big one…our training has been less than optimal this year for various reasons, but I have to tell you, he looks good and I expect him to finish with no problems… but its such a big race that I have to warn you (as you all know what happen to me not making swim cut off at Columbia Tri), that things may not go as planned..

We both are competing… and its should take around 6-7 hours..
1.2 mile swim
56 mile bike
13.1 mile run
****Its suppose to be 90 degrees and humid
The swim is in the Choptank River, which is saltwater and can be very choppy at times, although I have lucked out last two years and its been fairly calm, there are jelly fish, and the bike course is very windy, and the run course NOT shaded. It’s a VERY tough course and Im proud that Joe is even attempting it… Race is this Sunday, June 13th… his wave starts at 7:28am, mine at 8:30am.. so here is approximately where we will be depending on of course a lot of variables, but will give you an idea

Joe
7:28am: Swim wave start (his wave has 352 men starting).. there are over 1,500 people in the race. (In previous races we have seen people turn back or need to have the kayaks or support vehicles pick them up, mass starts people get (accidently) kicked , punched, swam over and stuff…the swim start is tough.) Swim cut off is 1 hour and 10 minutes.. Joe should be well under an hour and be on his bike.

8:30am on bike: The bike portion should take about 3 hours to 3-1/2 hours so by 11:30-12 he will be starting run.

11:30am-12pm starting run: Now the run can take anywhere from 2 hours to 3 hours depending on the heat. So you figure best case he will be done race at 2pm and worse at 3pm .

2:00-3:00pm JOE DONE

• My wave starts a half hour behind him.. so I wont be done until 2:30-3:30pm
